Name

The 4,400 GSF conference center at VICC, originally constructed in 2000, was modernized to improve aesthetics and technological flexibility for the vast range of events that occur at the facility. Existing walls within the suite were not altered, but all finishes were upgraded to new finish standards developed by B+MD, and bulky AV systems were replaced by smaller racks concealed within millwork cabinets.

The finish standards developed by B+MD, and implemented on this project, are designed to improve physical appearance of VUMC facilities to reflect the advanced clinical care, scientific research and medical education practiced at the Medical Center. This project was the first of several planned renovations to implement the standards, with the goal of enhancing the VUMC brand through a consistent, recognizable set of architectural finishes.

The entry into the conference center, off the existing elevator lobby, includes a panelized maple wall with stand-off signage lit from above with an LED wall-washer. The same materials will be used at entries across the medical center to establish a point of arrival. Within the conference center, a palette of cool colors were used, consistent with the established standard for education and research spaces at VUMC, in contrast to the warm and earth-tone colors that will be used throughout the clinical environment.
