This 80 year old facility is the largest YMCA in the world, located in a landmark district in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The YMCA houses nine floors of hotel rooms, three gymnasiums, two swimming pools, a theater, a childcare facility, and numerous other public and administration spaces. The master plan for the West Side YMCA was completed in 1999. Several upgrades and renovations were identified in the master plan as either necessary or having the ability to generate revenue for the branch. Our firm undertook several of these projects over the course of the next five years. These included a five-phased, occupied renovation of the men’s locker room; the renovation of two hotel floors to provide modern bedrooms with private bathrooms; a new Spinning gym; Plan for a new childcare facility and single occupancy housing; the provision of administrative offices for the International YMCA; and MEP infrastructure replacement.
