Donald Blair, FAIA, ACHA | Senior Principal
Donald Blair has over 40 years of experience leading architectural practices, including founding Donald Blair Architects (now Blair + Mui Dowd Architects), and previous work at Russo&Sonder and Perkins+Will. His portfolio includes numerous projects for Vanderbilt University Medical Center, University of Rochester Medical Center, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Temple University Health Systems, Columbia Memorial Hospital, and the YMCA of Greater NY. He has lectured throughout the country and taught at the Pratt Institute and City College of NY. In recognition of his expertise in academic medical centers, Donald was appointed Senior Strategic Advisor to the Dean at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and to a similar position at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Most recently, Donald served on the national design competition jury for Northwestern University’s new Biomedical Research Building. He is licensed to practice architecture in NY, NJ, PA, CN, MD, VA, IL, TN, and FL. In 2016 Donald was elevated to a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects.
Helen Mui AIA, LEED AP BD+C | Principal
Helen Mui joined Donald Blair in 2000, and in 2012, she became a firm Principal upon formation of Blair + Mui Dowd Architects. Her primary focus is on institutional, medical, and community facilities. Her work consists of projects in community hospitals, academic medical centers, outpatient clinics, and non-profit community facilities, and she has significant experience with master planning and feasibility studies. Helen is NCARB certified and licensed in New York State, and is a LEED Accredited Professional with credentials in Building Design and Construction. Helen received a Bachelors of Architecture from Syracuse University.
Brian Dowd, AIA, LEED AP BD+C | Principal
Brian Dowd joined Donald Blair in 2004 and became a firm principal in 2012 upon formation of Blair + Mui Dowd Architects. He has over ten years of experience in the planning and design of institutional facilities, and leads all work for Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His work includes complex research laboratories, clinical projects for academic medical centers, as well as educational and community facilities. He has experience in new construction, renovation projects, and master-planning. Brian is a licensed architect in New York and Tennessee, NCARB certified, and is a LEED Accredited Professional with credentials in Building Design and Construction. He is a graduate of Syracuse University School of Architecture and holds a Bachelors in Architecture.
Verena Koenig, Associate AIA, LEED AP BD+C | Associate
Verena joined B+MD in 2008, after graduating with a Diploma in Architecture from the Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany. She has recently completed several projects for Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Verena's expertise includes programming, utilization analysis, and design of clinical, educational, and institutional projects. Verena is a LEED Accredited Professional.
