An existing shared-patient-room unit of the hospital was remodeled into new private patient rooms and toilets, with a centralized nurse station. This model was developed as a prototype to be implemented throughout the hospital over several years.

The Hospice caregivers and staff were directly involved in the design process. Patient and family satisfaction data was incorporated into the design criteria, resulting in a hospice unit that meets the needs of the patients, their families, and the hospice staff, and at the same time retains the flexibility the future conversion to acute care patient rooms.
